Starflower is a chunky beret where the brim is knitted separately and later the stitches for body are picked up from the selvage stitches of the brim. The crown decreases form a “seven petal flower”, hence the name of the beret. The ends of the brim are fastened with a button.

SIZE: one size to fit a woman

YARN: 2 skeins Gedifra Highland Alpaca (100 g = 44 yards/41 m)

NEEDLES and NOTIONS: US15 (10 mm) and #17 (12 mm) dpn or circulars (the length of the circular needles depends on the method you prefer for a small diameter circular knitting: when you choose a magic loop technique, take circulars at least 40” (100 cm) long; when not using the magic loop technique, take 16” (40 cm) circular needles);  1 button.

GAUGE: 8 sts and 10 rows = 4×4’’/10x10cm in St st.

NOTE: If you are using some other yarn, choose needles that give you a bit looser texture then normal to get a slouchy beret.
